A collaborative map-drawing and improv RPG about old grievances, forced reconciliation and phenomenal improv.

The Legend of the Divided Shores

Long, long time ago, there was a land split by a relentless, rushing river. As every river, that one had two sides, so two settlements were born. There is a distant memory, that once upon a time, they were kin. But as the seasons turned to years, and years melted into decades, and decades changed into generations, whispers of grievances grew into shouts of guilt. Brotherhood drowned beneath the cold currents, leaving two bitter rival groups glaring at one another across the water.

Between them lay an unclaimed island of stone and reed: a place both sides claimed, yet neither could hold.

Then, from the grand capital, a decree arrived, carrying the iron will of the rulers.

How the Tale Unfolds

In Fractured City, you and your fellows will divide the room into two feuding sides. Through drawings and improv performance, you will chronicle the fragile, tense rise of this achievement.

  • Two Shores, Two Sides: Split your gathering into two rival fractions, each burdened by centuries of perceived slights.
  • Laying the Stones: Pass tiles across, to the other side. Where one shore chooses a parcel of land, the other must sketch what rises upon it: be it a grand fountain, a shadowed alley, or a bustling market stand.
  • Fables Within the Fable: Step into the newly built halls to enact spontaneous scenes of daily life. Yet beware: the fickle hand of fate will twist your scenes into classic tropes: star-crossed lovers, All animals are equal or alternate realities.
  • A Cycle of Never-Ending Grudges: Your chronicle begins with a letter of ancient grievances dictated to the capital... and ends with a new parchment, freshly inked with the new situation.
